Kisan Diwas or Farmer’s Day is celebrated in India on 23rd December every year to honor the contribution and hard work of the farmers towards the development and prosperity of our nation.
India is predominantly an agricultural country, therefore, farmers play an important role as the building blocks of the nation. Many industrial sectors like food, pharmaceuticals, bio-fuel etc depend on these farmers for their raw materials. However, we often see that despite being an important part for the country’s prosperity farmers suffer the most due to low income, uneven distribution of rainfall, floods etc which affect not only their productivity but also their livelihood. Thus, the government of India provides support to these nation builders through various policies and financial help whenever the need arises.
ROLE OF FARMERS IN NATION BUILDING
1. Contribution to the economy of our country by getting engaged in the global exchange of raw materials.
2. India has more rural population than urban so majority of the rural people are engaged in agricultural practices therefore acting as an arena for employment generation. With new modern technology experts are needed to work with the changing technology and promote sustainable agriculture.
3. Agriculture is the main source of food supply in any nation. A change in healthy food consumption is going throughout the world where people prefer the raw and natural version of food rather than the canned ones so a trend of growing agribusiness has been observed. This leads to the prosperity of our economy.
Therefore, the contribution the farmers have toward our society should definitely be recognized. We celebrate Kisan Diwas on 23rd December every year to celebrate the farmer’s dedication and hard work.
